TRACKLISTING

01. Mr Blue Sky

"When I was a little lad, a record called Sparky's Magic Piano was sometimes played on the radio. That talking piano haunted me and many years later drove me to find out how to do it..."
JEFF LYNNE 2005

02. Evil Woman

"Probably the fastest song I ever wrote was on that session - 'Evil Woman' which took about six minutes to write the basic tune. I was always planning on changing the chorus bit but I couldn't come up with anything better."
JEFF LYNNE 2000

03. Don't Bring Me Down

"I looped two bars of drumming taken from a different song on Discovery (you'll have to guess which one) and then I overdubbed eight grand pianos, a cement mixer and two crates of Newcastle Brown Ale and that got the ball rolling."
JEFF LYNNE 2000

04. Sweet Talkin' Woman

"Originally called 'Dead End Street,' has the most edits of any record I've ever made. Painstakingly joined together with half a mile of editing tape."
JEFF LYNNE 2005

05. Shine A Little Love

"A sort of disco beat that I'd almost used before, on 'Sweet Talkin' Woman.'"
JEFF LYNNE 2000

06. Turn To Stone

"That era was when the writing of the material really came together, and the songs were always catchy..."
JEFF LYNNE 2000

07. The Diary Of Horace Wimp

"It's a story about someone who's a bit of a twit and could never get anything done... but finally... a happy ending. There's no Saturday because every Saturday is a football match." JEFF LYNNE 2000

08. Confusion

"There was this keyboard called the CS-80. It's the main keyboard sound on the record. Unfortunately, the thing weighed about 2,000 pounds. It's a great machine but a roadie's nightmare." JEFF LYNNE 2000

09. Hold On Tight

"Recorded in L.A. with words translated by the French nanny on the day before the session."
JEFF LYNNE 2005

10. Livin' Thing

"Most of these songs were recorded in Munich, home of the largest beers in the world."
JEFF LYNNE 2005

11. Telephone Line

"Any sound you could imagine- you could create. It was all that was on my mind, (well nearly)."
JEFF LYNNE 2005

12. All Over The World

13. Wild West Hero

14. Showdown

"John Lennon said on the radio how much he liked this one!"
JEFF LYNNE 2005

15. Ma-Ma-Ma Belle

"This one features two lead guitarists, me and Marc Bolan, playing the main riff together."
JEFF LYNNE 2000

16. Xanadu (New Version)

"A song I wrote for the movie of the same name, sung brilliantly by Olivia Newton-John. I always liked the song and fancied another go at it."
JEFF LYNNE 2000

17. Rockaria!

"Tried to make a twelve bar with different chords."
JEFF LYNNE 2005

18. Strange Magic

"Richard (who played my favourite ELO lead guitar on Strange Magic) was always there working with me." JEFF LYNNE 2005

19. Alright

Well, Alright came about a third of the way through the project (Zoom). I just wanted a bouncy one - I know it sounds banal, you've got bouncy ones, you've got slow ones, you've got fast ones, you've got medium ones. The words really are that it's nice to have something to hold onto, whether it be your girlfriend or whatever, that gets you through things. It's something that gets you through problems...
JEFF LYNNE 2000

20. Rock 'n' Roll Is King

"Told yer so! This track went through many changes before becoming this song. I had about five different melodies and four different sets of words."
JEFF LYNNE 2005
